Williamsburg Celebrates 2011

Snuggled under a down comforter, sitting in front of a wood burning fireplace in the Diplomatic Reception room, sipping a port, snacking on a baked good or enjoying a good book in the JFK Library. Walking down the street to enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride in Colonial Williamsburg or enjoying dinner at a Colonial Tavern or a fine dining restaurant in Merchant Square, you can be guaranteed some wonderful memories of your 2011 New Years in Williamsburg. Enjoy a comfortable evening in your suite, followed by a delicious breakfast in the Reagan Dining room or at a table for two in front of a roaring fireplace in the JFK Library. After a wonderful day in Colonial Williamsburg you can choose between a quiet romantic dinner at the Trellis restaurant or a Colonial Tavern. Enjoy “First Night” in Williamsburg with over 40 events going on around the city. Shuttle Bus transportation means you can leave your car at the Inn and let someone else do the driving. Head over to Zable Stadium at the College of William and Mary or just walk back to A Williamsburg White House where you can watch the midnight fireworks from the window in the front of the Inn.  We wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

Christmas Snow in Williamsburg!

Christmas Snow in Williamsburg

Operating our Inn for our 10th year, we have never had the White Christmas like we experienced this year. Christmas day gave us the beginnings of a snow storm to match only one other.over 60 years ago. Measuring snow on our backyard furniture, it totalled over 12 inches and still falling.  Snow in Williamsburg is a real treat as it never seems to stay for very long. A small dusting of snow usually falls in the middle of January and by mid afternoon, the sun comes out and the snow is melted. This year we have been fortunate to experience over a foot of snow. A Family from California arrived prior to Christmas and are still with us due to flight delays. The young adults in the party had the opportunity to make a snow man right in the front yard. Even though they were not equipped to deal with the snow, that did not stop them and out they went snow man building. On Sunday, Colonial Williamsburg shut down due to the overwhelming amount of snow and all the restaurants closed as well. With a house full of guests, with nowhere to eat, we just cooked up a pot of beef stew with dumplings and had a family style dinner on Sunday night in the Reagan Dining Room. As the Wood burning fireplace was crackling, and the candles were burning on the dining room table, all of our guests enjoyed a bowl of hot stew, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and a bottle of wine and port. Great Friendships were made as well as memories to last a lifetime!

Williamsburg Bed and Breakfast Reviews

December 18th, 2010 by wdtp

Traveling to an area you have never visited is made easier today by the online review sites that are available to all internet users. There are a few sites online such as www.Yelp.com, www.bedandbreakfast.com and of course the most frequented site according to our guests is www.tripadvisor.com. This site allows guests who have stayed with us to post reviews about their stay. We actually encourage our guests to go home and write a review. What is better than reading about someone’s actual experience in regards to the positives and negatives that they experienced. We currently have over 255 reviews and are a 5 star rated B&B according to our guests. Many of our guests comment on our delicious breakfasts as well as the cleanliness of the Inn and the convenience of the short walk down the street to Colonial Williamsburg. We strive to make your stay comfortable and hope that during your stay, should you experience something that is not pleasing, you will let us know at that time so we can attempt to remedy the problem. www.Tripadvisor.com can offer many reviews to include restaurants in the area as well as attractions. We certainly hope that if you are traveling to Williamsburg, you will use this review site to gather information. Once you have done your research, the best way still to get any of your questions answered is to contact the Inn personally. We are owners who live on site and take great pride in our business so please, call us and talk to us.  We are hear to assist you.

Grand Illuminations in Colonial Williamsburg

December 4th, 2010 by wdtp

The Kick off to the Christmas Season is coming this weekend. Thousands of residents and guests will head down to Duke of Gloucester street this weekend as Colonial Williamsburg celebrates the start of the holiday season. Store fronts are adorned with fresh garland, window boxes are draped with boxwood and holly. Wreaths are created with fresh fruit from the area and hung on the historic homes. Interpreters are dressed in their holiday wear. Father Christmas strolls the streets of Merchant Square as children of all ages give him their lists. Sunday 12/5 culminates the festivities with music and fireworks like no other. Low lying fireworks explode in 3 different places simultaneously in the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area.  Hot Chocolate and cider are great additions to the fire lit torches lining the streets. The Fife and Drum perform to everyone’s amazement and children as well as adults watch in awe as the Christmas Season begins. Truly an occasion not to be missed!
